Spicy Cheese Balls with Honey Mustard Sauce 🧀🍯🌶

My fiancé and I are 100 percent mad about cheese. We put it in everything and, most importantly, LOTS of it. 😁 But there is onecatch – we like different cheeses. He is an absolute cheddar prince and I am a mozzarella princess, so while shopping at the supermarket we secretly load the basket with plenty of cheese behind each other's backs, going by the rule – „I saw nothing, and you saw nothing either”😂. The same goes for sweets, of course.😂 Unloading the shopping at the till I often find blocks of cheddar and bars of chocolate „buried” under the other products.. But I can hardly complain, since I am holding a whole block of mozzarella myself…

That is exactly how today's shop went, so the end result was a lot of cheddar and mozzarella and absolutely zero ideas about what to do with them. I spent ages opening the fridge and the cupboards, racking my brains over what to make, because just the thought of that much cheese in the house was warming!🧀🤗

Finally the revelation came to me. A revelation in the truest sense, because I combined the cheddar with the mozzarella and, out of all the products you can see in the photo, one of the tastiest snacks I have ever eaten came out – and barely a few hours after making them I was frying a second batch. 😁

Let's start with the sauce – honey mustard sauce has become a classic by now, and it is also in my top five favourite sauces, because it is fairly versatile and insanely good – you can use it with salads, chicken dishes or, as I did here, with snacks. For a somewhat healthier and lighter version of honey mustard sauce, you can try swapping the mayonnaise for natural yoghurt. But I am sticking with the sinful version, because it is devilishly good.😈

The cheese balls – also worth the sin. Cheddar and mozzarella complement each other beautifully, and the fried filling turns temptingly stretchy, just like in those pizza adverts where an indecent amount of cheese trails after the slice you lift.😂 (p.s. use the mozzarella that comes dry-packed, of course, not the kind sold in liquid, or you may end up with a mush. I buythis oneat Iki, or the President brand at Rimi). The jalapeños give a subtle note of heat, but you can freely swap them for chilli or cayenne pepper. I would strongly recommend chilling the balls well before frying and coating them in at least two layers of flour and one of breadcrumbs, or the cheese may leak out. So, shall we give it a go?😋
